Four things explain almost every difference between these fourteen laptops: why memory became expensive, how that memory is attached, which processor generation sits behind the badge, and what the screen numbers actually mean.
Why a ₹50,000 laptop got worse this year
The world’s three big memory makers have shifted factory capacity toward high-bandwidth memory (HBM), the stacked chips that sit beside AI accelerators in data centres. Ordinary DRAM and NAND became scarce, and laptop brands responded by holding prices and trimming specifications — which is why 8GB, not 16GB, is now standard below ₹50,000. Soldered LPDDR5 versus SO-DIMM slots
LPDDR5 chips are soldered directly beside the processor. That makes them fast and power-efficient, and permanent: a laptop sold with 8GB of LPDDR5 dies with 8GB. SO-DIMM memory comes on removable sticks of DDR4 or DDR5, so a technician — or you, with a screwdriver — can add capacity later. There is a second benefit on laptops without a graphics card: integrated graphics borrow system memory, and running two matched sticks in dual-channel mode gives them noticeably more speed than a single stick.
Reading AMD’s model numbers
In AMD’s 7000-series names, the third digit is the architecture. The Ryzen 3 7320U is Zen 2, a 2019 core design; the 7330U is Zen 3; the 7335U is Zen 3+, where the final 5 marks the newer variant with Radeon 660M graphics; and the Ryzen 5 7430U is Zen 3 with six cores. AMD has since renamed the Zen 2 parts: the Ryzen 3 7320U is now sold as the Ryzen 3 30 and the Ryzen 5 7520U as the Ryzen 5 40. The silicon is identical, which is why a “Ryzen 5” laptop at ₹50,000 can be slower than a Ryzen 3 7335U at ₹47,249.
Intel’s hybrid cores
Intel’s budget chips mix two kinds of core. Performance cores handle the task you are working on; efficiency cores absorb background work at lower power. The Core 3 100U pairs two of the first with four of the second, and the Core i5-1335U pairs two with eight. Core count alone therefore overstates Intel’s speed against AMD, where every core is a full-size one.
What 250 nits, 45% NTSC and TN really mean
Nits measure brightness: 250 is comfortable indoors and struggles near a window, and 300 or more is better for bright rooms. 45% NTSC is roughly two-thirds of the sRGB colour standard used on the web, so colours look muted beside a phone screen. TN panels shift colour when viewed from an angle, IPS panels do not, and a 120Hz panel such as the Dell’s makes scrolling visibly smoother without costing much battery at this level.
