Best Laptops for College Students Under ₹80,000 in India 2026 — top picks from ASUS, Samsung, HP, Lenovo and Apple

Overview

The college laptop sweet spot

The ₹60,000–₹80,000 laptop segment is where college laptops genuinely get interesting. Below ₹60,000 you trade off display quality, build, or processing power; above ₹80,000 you enter professional territory that's often overkill for undergraduate use. This guide covers the sweet spot — six laptops where every rupee delivers a meaningful upgrade in display, GPU power, battery life, or build.

A note on prices. We last re-verified every pick on Amazon.in on 8 October 2026 and replaced all six from the previous edition: four had sold out, the ASUS Vivobook S14 OLED was no longer offered, and the Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge had climbed to ₹90,800 from a third-party seller. Laptop prices have risen through 2026 as memory got more expensive, and RTX 4050 machines now start above ₹90,000, so this edition has one dedicated-GPU laptop instead of two. Every pick below is sold by Amazon's own retail partner, Clicktech, at the price shown on the day we checked.

The lineup spans three categories — Copilot+ AI laptops, a gaming laptop with a dedicated GPU, and everyday all-rounders including Apple's MacBook Neo — so there's a clear best choice for any course. Gaming a priority? See our dedicated guide to the best gaming laptops.

Cheapest Copilot+ PC 01 / 06
HP OmniBook 3 college laptop HP

HP OmniBook 3 (Snapdragon X, 16GB, 512GB, 14-inch)

4.2 / 5 ₹63,990

The cheapest Copilot+ PC we could verify in stock, and at 1.42 kg one of the easiest to carry between lectures. Snapdragon X is an ARM chip built for long unplugged days. The catches: the 300-nit panel covers only 62.5% of sRGB, and a few Windows apps still run through emulation.

  • 16GB LPDDR5x (soldered) + 512GB PCIe Gen4 SSD, Office Home 2024 included
  • 1.42 kg, compact charger, FHD IR camera for Windows Hello
Best for Apple Users 02 / 06
Apple MacBook Neo college laptop Apple

Apple MacBook Neo (A18 Pro, 8GB, 256GB, 13-inch)

4.5 / 5 ₹67,990

Apple's new entry-level Mac takes the MacBook Air M2's place here, and it costs less than the Air did. The A18 Pro is an iPhone chip, quick for notes, browsing, Office and light photo work, and battery is rated at up to 16 hours. The limits are firm: 8GB memory and 256GB storage, neither upgradeable.

ASUS Vivobook 14 college laptop ASUS

ASUS Vivobook 14 (Ryzen AI 5 330, 16GB, 512GB, Copilot+)

4.1 / 5 ₹75,990

A Copilot+ PC on a regular x86 chip, so every Windows app, game launcher and engineering tool installs exactly as it would anywhere else, with no ARM emulation. Its 50 TOPS NPU is the most AI hardware in this guide. The trade-offs: only four CPU cores and a dull 45% NTSC screen.

Lenovo ThinkBook 16 college laptop Lenovo

Lenovo ThinkBook 16 (Ryzen 5 7535HS, 16GB, 512GB)

4.3 / 5 ₹75,990

The safest all-rounder for most students. A six-core H-series Ryzen, 16GB of DDR5 and a 16-inch 16:10 screen in a business-line chassis with Lenovo's keyboard. Its RAM expands to 64GB, which only the gaming Acer here also allows. The screen is plain IPS, and 1.7 kg is no ultrabook.

Best OLED + Storage 05 / 06
HP OmniBook 5 OLED 16 college laptop HP

HP OmniBook 5 OLED 16 (Snapdragon X, 16GB, 1TB)

4.4 / 5 ₹78,990

The best screen here for design and media students: a 16-inch OLED covering 95% of DCI-P3, with true blacks no IPS panel can match. It adds a 1TB SSD and Snapdragon X efficiency at 1.59 kg. The OmniBook 3's ARM caveat applies here too, so check that your course software runs on it first.

  • 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD, the most storage in this guide
  • 16GB LPDDR5x per the title (the listing's memory line repeats the CPU)
Best for Gaming 06 / 06
Acer ALG RTX 3050 college laptop Acer

Acer ALG (Core 5 210H, RTX 3050 4GB, 144Hz)

4.0 / 5 ₹79,999

The only laptop with a dedicated NVIDIA GPU we found in stock under ₹80,000, and it clears that line by one rupee. The RTX 3050 4GB runs esports and older AAA games at 1080p, and gives CS students CUDA. Acer does not publish its GPU wattage, and the 144Hz panel is a dim 45% NTSC.

What to Look For

Display Choice

Pick OLED if you do design, photo or video work — colour accuracy and contrast matter. IPS is fine for general study.

Storage

Get at least 512GB SSD; prefer 1TB if your course involves large files or datasets — the HP OmniBook 5 OLED 16 is the only 1TB pick here.

Weight & Portability

1.2–1.5 kg suits daily commuters (the MacBook Neo is 1.23 kg); 2 kg is acceptable for a hostel-desk machine like the Acer ALG.

Dedicated GPU

RTX 3050 or better if you game or run GPU-accelerated ML frameworks — the Acer ALG is the only laptop here with one.

Apple Ecosystem

Choose the MacBook Neo only if you already use an iPhone — Continuity, AirDrop and Handoff compound the value.

Copilot+ / AI

A Copilot+ PC (both OmniBooks, Vivobook 14) keeps gaining on-device AI features. The Snapdragon models are ARM, so check your course software runs first.

Our Recommendation

The best overall for most students is the
Lenovo ThinkBook 16

If we had to pick just one: the Lenovo ThinkBook 16 at ₹75,990 is the most well-rounded pick. A six-core Ryzen 5 7535HS, 16GB of DDR5 that expands to 64GB, a 16-inch 16:10 screen and Lenovo's keyboard cover every non-gaming college workload, and every Windows app runs on it natively. Its real limits are a plain IPS panel and no dedicated GPU. Every other laptop here wins its own category:

  • › Cheapest Copilot+ PC: HP OmniBook 3 — Snapdragon X at 1.42 kg, the lowest price here
  • › Best for Apple users: MacBook Neo — A18 Pro, 1.23 kg, up to 16 hours rated battery
  • › Best x86 AI PC: ASUS Vivobook 14 — 50 TOPS Copilot+ with no ARM emulation
  • › Best OLED & storage: HP OmniBook 5 OLED 16 — 95% DCI-P3 OLED + 1TB SSD
  • › Best for gaming & engineering: Acer ALG — RTX 3050 4GB + CUDA, the only dedicated GPU here

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, especially if you spend long hours at a screen. OLED displays produce true blacks, deeper contrast and more vibrant colours than IPS — reducing eye strain during long study sessions. For design, photography or video editing, wide DCI-P3 coverage is professionally meaningful. OLED has thinned out under ₹80,000 in 2026: the HP OmniBook 5 OLED 16 (95% DCI-P3) is the one pick here, and HP sells a lighter 14-inch OmniBook 5 OLED with 512GB at the same price.
A Copilot+ PC is a Windows 11 laptop with an NPU delivering at least 40 TOPS — enough to run AI features locally without the cloud. Features include live captions, AI image generation, on-device background blur and Windows Recall, with more rolling out monthly in 2026. For students it's a useful bonus rather than a must-have today. Three picks here are Copilot+ PCs: the HP OmniBook 3 and OmniBook 5 OLED 16 (Snapdragon X, 45 TOPS) and the ASUS Vivobook 14 (Ryzen AI 5 330, 50 TOPS). The Snapdragon pair are ARM laptops, so a few Windows apps run through emulation; the Vivobook runs everything natively.
Not as of October 2026. Every in-stock RTX 4050 laptop we found costs more than ₹90,000, and most RTX 3050 machines have moved above ₹85,000 too. The Acer ALG is the one RTX 3050 laptop we found under ₹80,000 from Amazon's retail partner, and it is the 4GB version, fine for esports titles and CUDA coursework but short on VRAM for modern AAA games at high settings. If gaming is the priority, see our RTX 4050 laptop guide.
For coursework, yes — the A18 Pro handles Python, Java, C++ and web development well, and Xcode runs natively. The limits are harder than on the old MacBook Air: 8GB of memory gets tight with Docker, virtual machines or a big IDE plus a browser full of tabs, and 256GB fills fast (neither can be upgraded). Windows-only engineering software such as many CAD and simulation tools won't run natively. For heavy simulation or ML work, the Lenovo ThinkBook 16 or the RTX-equipped Acer ALG is the safer choice.
The Lenovo ThinkBook 16 — Lenovo's business-line keyboards consistently rate highest for key travel and comfort among Windows brands. Apple's keyboards are excellent for their flat profile, and the MacBook Neo's comes colour-matched to the body. The Acer ALG's gaming keyboard is functional but not designed primarily for typing comfort.
