DeepNote Privacy Policy
DeepNote: Notes, To Do, Voice

App: DeepNote (com.indroid.deepnote), by Indroid Studio. This policy covers the Android app. The website you are reading it on has its own policy.

Summary

In short

DeepNote does not collect, share or sell any information about you, and stores nothing on a server. The app has no internet permission, so it is technically unable to send data anywhere. There are no ads, no analytics and no accounts.

On your device

What the app keeps, and where

Everything DeepNote stores stays in the app's private storage on your device:

  • Your text notes, to-do lists and their items.
  • Your voice notes, saved as audio files.
  • Your reminders, and the times they are set for.
  • Your settings, such as the theme and the automatic backup schedule.

Uninstalling the app deletes all of it, apart from any backup or export files you saved elsewhere yourself (see below).

Microphone

Microphone and voice notes

DeepNote uses the microphone only while you are recording a voice note, and Android's microphone indicator is visible the whole time. The recording is saved on your device. It is not transcribed, analysed or sent anywhere.

Getting text in and out

Sharing, widgets and the assistant

  • Sharing into DeepNote. When you share text or a link from another app to DeepNote, Android gives DeepNote only that text, and it becomes a new note.
  • Sharing out of DeepNote. When you share a note or a voice recording, Android's share sheet sends it to the app you pick. What happens to it then is up to that app.
  • Assistant. If you ask Google Assistant to create a note in DeepNote, the Assistant passes the note's title and text to the app. Google handles your voice request under its own privacy policy. DeepNote only receives the resulting text.
  • Home-screen widget. The widget shows your recent notes on your home screen. Anyone who can see your home screen can see them, so remove the widget if that matters to you.

Backups

Backups and exports

  • DeepNote backups. When you create a backup, manually or on a schedule, DeepNote writes a file to a folder you choose with Android's file picker. If that folder syncs to a cloud drive, the cloud provider's policy applies to the file. DeepNote only reads a backup when you restore one.
  • Export. Exporting your notes creates a text document that you send wherever you choose through the share sheet.
  • Android backup. If Android backup is turned on for your device, Android may include DeepNote's data in your device backup to your Google account. This includes notes, and recordings within Android's size limit. Android and Google handle this backup; the developer has no access to it. When you move directly to a new phone, Android may also transfer this data.

Permissions

Permissions

  • Microphone: to record voice notes, and only while you are recording.
  • Notifications: to show your reminders.
  • Alarms & reminders (exact alarms): so reminders arrive at the minute you set. If you don't allow it, reminders still work but may arrive a little late.
  • Run at startup: to set your pending reminders again after the phone restarts.
  • Storage: only on Android 9 and older, where saving a file to shared storage needs it.

None of these is used to collect information. DeepNote does not request internet access.

Children

Children

DeepNote is rated for everyone and collects no information from anyone, including children.
